For the 25th Anniversary of the Enterprise Awards, the Philadelphia Alliance for Capital and Technology shook up both format and venue for the annual awards show, held Wednesday at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts.
Shorter speeches and more networking was the motto at this year’s awards show, which kicked off with a Oscars-esque montage looking back at the show’s past editions. This year, PACT recognized companies from the enterprise software space (like Dell Boomi, which won the Technology Company award), consumer experience (like Radnor, Pa.-based Relay, winners in the Technology Emerging category) and fintech (like Perpay, winner of the Technology Startup category).
Mike DiPiano Managing General Partner at NewSpring Capital, received this year’s Legend Award.
“I’m no legend,” DiPiano said in his acceptance speech. “What I’m really fond of is gathering great people, getting them to come together to solve problems and build things. And in this community we have that in spades.”
During the ceremony, PACT chairman Dean Miller paid a tribute to attorney and startup consigliere Steve Goodman, who passed away in March. Songs by Goodman, who was also an accomplished piano player and jazz musician, played throughout the three-hour network-a-thon that followed the awards.
(As noted by a few attendees, the evening’s nominees reflected the skewed demographics of venture capital. With less than 2 percent of VC dollars going to female founders, and the number dropping when it comes to Black women, the nominees of the evening were mostly male and white.)
Here is the complete list of winners:
