The latest report from the Economy League of Greater Philadelphia found that 102,000 people in the Philly region work in tech, but that workforce is diversity challenged.
Ever in the quest to level the playing field for women in technology and adding diversity to the tech ecosystem, Girl Develop It has three upcoming activities aimed at entry level or junior developers.
On Jan. 29, at software company Wildbit’s headquarters, the organization is hosting its monthly Code & Coffee event, a free gathering aimed at those looking to make a career change into the tech industry.
“Come meet others who are also making career changes and get advice from some of those who’ve already done it,” wrote organizer Meghan Kelly.
Another entry level event is happening on Feb. 13, at Arcweb Technologies’ Old City offices: Intro to Programming Concepts, hosted by EPAM’s Jen Dionisio. The class has a cost of $25.
For women with some programming knowledge, on Feb. 17 the nonprofit is looking to connect developers with an Intro to iOS development, a two-day workshop. Hosted at Launch Academy’s Center City location, the class has a cost of $100, though Girl Develop It offers scholarships and other assistance services for those who need it.
With 24 percent of local Chief Innovation Officers looking to add tech jobs to their teams this year, it’s time to make a move.
