Almost four years, 50 events and some 10,000 total attendees later, Philly New Tech Meetup (PNTM) is easily among the biggest Meetup groups in town.

Born from the ashes of the abruptly dormant Philly Tech Meetup, the group came to life in May 2014 thanks to Mike Krupit, Brad Denenberg, Eamon Gallagher, Cory Donovan and Brittany Esser.

On Dec. 7, at WHYY, as PNTM hosts its final 2017 event with author and speaker Nir Eyal, it will also announce some major leadership changes: technologist Darla Wolfe will take over organization and operations as Executive Director.

Wolfe, CTO of MilkCrate, has a deep background in tech as an executive and manager with companies like DuPont and SAP. She’s on the board of the Anne Welsh McNulty Women’s Leadership Institute and the Villanova University Alumni Association.

Meanwhile, Denenberg, Krupit and Gallagher will be launching a new nonprofit initiative to “focus on enhancing tech and innovation programming region-wide,” Denenberg said in an email.

The organizers will be meeting with community stakeholders to “better understand the needs of additional groups like PNTM.”

The goal? Creating a larger umbrella organization to better organize content, scheduling, funding and resources across the community. Denenberg said those interested in joining the conversations can get at him through LinkedIn.
