Embrace the future of voice UX at this Oct. 12 PhillyCHI event

With the rise of Alexa and Cortana, today's technologists need to get familiar with designing for voice-first platforms. This is a great place to start.

Update: PhillyCHI was able to extend the registration deadline for its event until Oct. 11. (10/3/17, 9:14 p.m.)

Not too far into the future, when you need to look something up or remind yourself to do a task, you will be able to do so without touching your phone or computer, thanks to voice-first platforms, such as Amazon’s Alexa, Google’s Assistant and Microsoft’s Cortana.

A study by analytics firm VoiceLabs found that in the year 2017 alone, “25 million devices will be shipped, bringing the total number of voice-first devices to 33 million in circulation.” Today’s technologists need to start planning for how to create good user experiences for devices without traditional, visual interfaces and PhillyCHI is helping tackle that challenge with its upcoming “Elements of Voice Interface Design” event.

RSVP by Oct. 11

The event will feature former Amazon exec Ahmed Bouzid, sharing the history of voice usability and the challenges of working in the space. Bouzid has plenty of experience, since he is also the founder and CEO of Witlingo, a B2B SaaS startup that builds products and solutions for voice-first devices and platforms. (He’s also the cofounder and director of the Ubiquitous Voice Society, a nonprofit dedicated to the mission of evangelizing the emerging voice interface, and the author of two books on voice-first design.)

Along with serving as the event sponsor and host, Comcast’s Experience Design team will also provide a demonstration of its current line of products. A panel discussion between Bouzid and the Comcast team on the direction of voice UX will conclude the event, plus there will be time for audience questions.

“Elements of Voice Interface Design” will take place on Thursday, Oct. 12 at 6 p.m. at Comcast’s Ralph’s Cafe, featuring beautiful views from the 43rd floor.
