Power Moves: These five women are making waves

August is Women in Tech month and we're kicking things off with five hires of interest.

In August, Technical.ly’s Editorial Calendar will focus on women in tech, and we’re hoping to have you, women technologists of Philly, tell us what that should mean.

Should we focus on culture and work environment? Should we step out of the way and let you talk about technology? Should we do lists of resources for women looking to make a career shift? These are all starting points, but we want to hear from you.

Email this reporter with your suggestions, thoughts and pitches. Suggest a guest post author (or write one yourself). Tell me what you don’t want to see. Let’s do this one together, shall we?

For now, here’s a quick roundup of local women technologists making some moves of interest.

###

MilkCrate just hired a CTO in Darla Wolfe, a former SAP exec and consultant, as our sister site Generocity first reported the news.

“She has already made a huge contribution to our relationship with Comcast, and we are thrilled to have her fill this role with her decades of experience and delightful personality,” the company said in an email to its supporters.

Also, CEO and founder Morgan Berman was just across the pond for the Ariane de Rothschild Fellowship, a professional development program for social entrepreneurs.

The Meet Group, New Hope, Pa.’s social media conglomerate, hired Brandyn Bissinger to be its new Director of Communications and Media Relations. In her new role, the former reporter will be the media liaison for all of the group’s brands inclunding Skout, Tagged, and Hi5.

“I started out my career in the newsrooms of Philadelphia, and that’s where I discovered my love of storytelling,” Bissinger told Technical.ly. “I worked for ten years as a journalist before deciding to use those skills to help companies grow and acquire more business through various marketing, public relations, and communications strategies. I have a deep passion for technology/saas communications.”

Prior to this position, Bissinger headed up marketing and comms efforts at Bensalem, Pa.-based Contour Data Solutions.

Jen Dionisio of Girl Develop It made a couple of power moves in just under a month.

The former Digital Projects Manager for the Curtis Institute joined EPAM Systems, the publicly-traded software solutions company based in Newtown, Pa.

“I’ll be working with clients to help them with their front-end content needs, like content assessment, and back-end content needs, like website migration strategy and SEO,” Dionisio said. “I’m especially excited to be working alongside an amazing team of fellow content strategists for the first time. I feel so lucky to get to download their knowledge and experiences.”

For the second act of the technologist’s power move: Dionisio was named Girl Develop It’s new chapter lead for Philadelphia following the departure of organizer Elise Wei, who will be joining the tech scene of Wellington, New Zealand (more info on Wei’s move in an upcoming Exit Interview).

###

Ebonie Butler, who we last checked in with as she wrapped up Interactive Mechanics’ fellowship program, left Lockheed-Martin and came aboard dev shop YIKES, Inc.

“I’m truly enjoying being a full-time WordPress developer and actually being excited about going to work,” Butler said via email. “One of my major complaints at my previous position is that I was not challenged at all but, at Yikes Inc. I find meaning in everything I’m learning and doing.”
