Councilman Domb on how to grow Philly jobs: ‘tech’

Allan Domb stumped yet again for technology jobs in an interview with Philly.com columnist Stu Bykofsky.

We’ve often spotted Councilman Allen Domb — often flanked by Mayor Jim Kenney — at Philly tech shindigs like office openings, panel discussions and most recently the local outpost at out-of-state megaconference SXSW.

At most events he’s cheered for tech’s potential to be an economic catalyst for the cities, citing his favorite stat: four new jobs are spawned off every tech job created.

In a discussion with Philly.com columnist Stu Bykofsky published yesterday, the real estate mogul once again named tech as a talisman to summon job growth in the area.

“Why are we not teaching [computer] coding in grades 9-12 in high school instead of geometry or calculus or algebra?” Domb told Bykofsky in the interview. “We are creating tech jobs, but we are not training our kids for those jobs.”

Domb has also been regularly announcing the donation of his salary to help schools get tech supplies like Chromebooks.
