Navigating the professional world is tough. There are so many unwritten rules they don’t tell you about while you’re in college and then suddenly you graduate and officially become an adult, but haven’t quite mastered developing personally let alone deciphering what exactly professional development means.

As a millennial currently going through the struggle I feel your pain. School was supposed to make us smart and well-rounded individuals, however, we never really had classes that allowed for the development of practical skillsets like networking and figuring out how to pay back your student loans while also being able to save for retirement and afford groceries.

It’s something many millennials make harder on themselves by trying to go at it alone — and I’ll admit, I tried that too. However, asking for help doesn’t make you weak. It’s actually very important to surround yourself with excellent mentors and peers that will give you the motivation and encouragement needed to elevate yourself to the next level.

My current boss, Michael W. Banks, president of the African-American Chamber of Commerce of PA, NJ & DE, is committed to helping professionals and entrepreneurs of all backgrounds make it to their next level. So much so that when discussing the lack of an all-encompassing program in Philadelphia to help millennials grow we came to the conclusion that a program needed to be created.

And with that Level Up Week was created.

Level Up Week is a weeklong program that includes four nights of workshops on topics including: health and wellness, career development, entrepreneurship, financial literacy and making a social impact. The week concludes with a networking night for all attendees and sponsors where millennials can interact with prominent members of the Philadelphia business community and participate in focused networking and resource sharing with peers.

There will be a wide range of speakers throughout the week such as Ofo Ezeugwu, founder of Whose Your Landlord, and well-known social entrepreneur and philanthropist Nehemiah Davis, among others.

All millennials and supporters of millennial workers are invited to attend Level Up Week and can choose between attending all events or picking specific ones. Level Up Week runs June 12-16, 2017. All workshops will be from 5:30-8:30 p.m. at WeWork, 1601 Market St., and the closing reception will be held at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts (PAFA), at 118-128 N. Broad St.

If you’re ready to level up, tickets can be purchased here.

Members of the community are invited to use the code “PartnerLU” at checkout to receive free admission.
