The five-month-long search is over: RevZilla (kinda) got a new CEO.

See, Nic Vu, former Senior Vice President for North America at Adidas, was announced today as the new CEO of Comoto Holdings, parent company to both the Navy Yard-based ecommerce company for bikers and San Francisco-based CycleGear. From his new leadership role, Vu — who will, as promised, be based out of RevZilla’s Navy Yard HQ — will call the shots at both companies.

Matt Kull, the RevZilla cofounder who took the role of interim CEO as the search for a new leader was carried out, will be returning to his post as COO. Kull took the helm in December, when cofounder Anthony Bucci stepped down from the CEO role citing the need for “additional experience” in the top rungs.

“It’s a hard, very bittersweet decision because I love this business and running it, but the goal is that the right leadership is in place to allow this business to span decades,” Bucci told Technical.ly at the time.

What nabbed Vu the role as CEO? For Kull, it was a mix of things in the right proportions:

“Nic’s retail background with an international brand like adidas, history as a rider and leadership style make him a great fit to lead us,” Kull said in a statement. “He has a tremendous track record of bringing big-name companies to the next level, while maintaining the integrity of the brand and workplace culture.”

Kull spoke with Technical.ly about the search process, in which the company looked at a couple of hundred applicants. “We spent time talking about what the future needs of the business was,” Kull said. “We needed someone with oversight of both businesses. For us, it was about finding someone wiht the right personality and culture fit.”

The newly-minted Comoto Holdings exec, formerly based in Ohio, also sports a 12-year career span in several management roles at Target. He joined Adidas in 2007 and spent close to four years in his final leadership role at the athletics giant. Per Kull, his ties to the biking world were also of note.

“He sold his bike when he got married, but he grew up riding dirt bikes,” Kull said.

RevZilla’s staff count is at 247 full-timers, with a projected 260 by the end of September. With a significant presence in the local scene, Kull said the company wants to continue to be a loud voice in Philly’s tech ecosystem.

And what’s the latest on Bucci since his departure from the lead role? Kull said he’s still actively participating on the media side of things (here he is just yesterday reviewing some kickass biker boots on RevZilla’s YouTube channel) and as a board member.
