Next month: #hackthemuseum with Philly art nerds to win $2,000

Winners will be announced during Philly Tech Week 2017 presented by Comcast. Get tickets now.

This is a guest post by the Philadelphia Museum of Art's Jessica Milby.
We at the Philadelphia Museum of Art are bringing people, art and technology together to #hackthemuseum.

We want to see you make your best art and tech mashup into a digital game. Have a thing for VR? So do we! Want to wow the judges with augmented reality? Bring it!

Wednesday, April 5, is the opening night for this month-long event. Enjoy food and drink, form teams and meet the nerdiest art nerds there are, our own Philadelphia Museum of Art staff. We’ll reveal the Hackathon 2.0 prompt and judging criteria, so you can start to #hackthemuseum into a playable experience we’ve never seen before.

Purchase tickets ($25) to compete with other hackers in April for the $2,000 grand prize. Participants of all ages and experience levels are welcome, and we’ll have staff on hand to talk about the Museum data and tools we have for you.

Get tickets

HackLabs on Wednesday evenings, April 12 and April 19, are your chance to get help using the Museum’s collection media and resources and to talk art, technology, and gaming with Museum staff and local hackers. Bring your works in progress: code, prototypes, whatever you’ve got, and get input from local makerspace warriors and the Museum’s education heroes and technology gurus. We’ll have space for you designed by Philly’s own Hive76.

On Wednesday, May 3rd, during Philly Tech Week 2017 presented by Comcast, the top five teams will present to the public. Judges will name the overall winner and the public will vote on a people’s choice award (the winner will get $500). Judges will score your digital project based on criteria to be revealed at the kickoff. Show them (and us) your best. All are welcome on May 3, whether you participated in the hackathon or not.

Can’t make it here to compete in person? Sign up as an online participant and compete from across the globe.
