Staffers at Wayne-based cloud communications company Evolve IP had a holiday decorating contest.

The absolute winner, at least from a tech standpoint, was a lil Christmas tree that changed colors by way of voice commands. Basically, users call a number and use a series of voice commands to change the color of the tree back and forth between ruby red, lime green or ocean blue.

Leveraging Evolve IP’s interactive voice response (IVR) software and internet of things trinkets, the project was a creation of product developer Darryl Dietz. Though this won’t be available for consumers, Dietz mentions in the video that the tree showcases some of the tech Evolve IP is working on for 2017.

Here’s the full demo:

“We have a great software development and engineering team and this is a fun example of the constant innovative thinking at Evolve IP,” said Evolve IP’s VP of network engineering Peter Eisengrein. “The framework we used to build this festive decoration is also used to develop advanced customer applications for our award-winning call center and IP phone systems.”

Back in June, the 226-employee firm got a significant cash infusion from Boston-based Green Hill Partners. Though the official figure was not disclosed, Philly.com estimated the firm took in about $100 million geared at acquisitions and growth.
