Full disclosure: Comcast is the title sponsor of Philly Tech Week 2016, which is organized by Technical.ly.
Philly-based media giant Comcast is adding another title to its roster. DreamWorks Animation — the studio behind Shrek, Madagascar and Kung Fu Panda — is entering the Comcast fold in an acquisition worth $3.8 billion, the company announced Thursday.
“DreamWorks will help us grow our film, television, theme parks and consumer products businesses for years to come,” NBCUniversal CEO Steve Burke said in a statement.
Comcast says the acquisition has already been approved by both companies’ boards. The deal is expected to be approved by regulators by year’s end.
The Wall Street Journal reported on the talks yesterday.
