For Science Center arts residency, Dutch duo to build Google Earth documentary of Philly

The next five months will be spent building a location-based audio documentary of Philadelphia that's powered by Google Earth.

A pair of Dutch artists are spending the next five months building a location-based audio documentary of Philadelphia that’s powered by Google Earth.

The artists, Esther Polak and Ivar van Bekkum a/k/a PolakVanBekkum, won a $168,000 grant from the University City Science Center. The pair will lead the Art Along the Avenue of Technology arts residency, according to a release. They arrived from the Netherlands last month and will be working with volunteers, who will wear microphones and GPS devices while they wander around the city, to make the documentary.

You can follow their project here.

The art residency is funded by the Philadelphia Redevelopment Authority’s Percent for Art program.
