This Center City agency is playing cross-city Tic-tac-toe with RFID, Instagram

After merging with Boston ad agency allen & gerritsen this summer, the Philly arm of the company wanted to get to know its northern neighbors. So they hacked together a Tic-tac-toe game that crossed state borders with RFID readers, an Arduino Yun and Instagram.

Watch how it all came together in the video below.

Previously known as Neiman, allen & gerritsen’s Philly office is known for its playful social media projects,  like a candy machine powered by Facebook likes and a Twitter-controlled Nerf gun. The Tic-tac-toe game is just the tip of the iceberg for RFID, said George Ward, allen & gerritsen senior vice president of innovation.

“We see huge opportunities in RFID and the ability to customize a message and communicate it wirelessly to an individual at point of sale,” Ward said through a spokeswoman.

Imagine, he said, “walking into a store only to be welcomed by personalized offers.”
