Moore College of Art, the country’s only visual arts school for women, will launch a new major this fall for women who want to pursue careers in animation and game and mobile design.
Moore, which is based in Center City, said the new major, called Interactive and Motion Arts, is in response to the fact that women are underrepresented in the gaming industry. Women make up 11 percent of game designers, according to a recent article in the Boston Globe.
The new major will be Moore’s tenth major. Out of the 130 students in Moore’s incoming freshman class, seven have signed up for the major, said spokeswoman Michele Cohen, though some freshmen don’t immediately declare majors.
