MentorHacks: register for crash course in hackathons

Hackathons can be intimidating, especially if you're not familiar with the local civic hacking scene.

Full Disclosure: Philly is a media sponsor of this event.

Hackathons can be intimidating, especially if you’re not familiar with the local civic hacking scene.

That’s why the Urban Technology Project is hosting MentorHacks, a crash course in hackathons on July 20. The day-long event aims to be a space for experienced and inexperienced technologists to learn from each other. MentorHacks will offer workshops on HTML/CSS and WordPress and then participants will put their new skills to use.

MentorHacks is on July 20 at the Department of Making + Doing at 3711 Market Street from 8:30 a.m to 6:00 p.m.

It’s worth noting, too, that there have been other efforts to bring more hackers into the local hackathon world, like Philly’s first women-only hackathon LadyHacks.

The Urban Technology Project is a workforce development organization that runs the Digital Service Fellowship program that trains young adults to be IT technicians.
