Jon Gosier, cofounder of data science startup Metalayeris one of Business Insider‘s “Most Influential African Americans in tech,” according to a list it recently published.

The list seemed to be inspired by a CNN investigation that reported that white and Asian men dominate Silicon Valley. The issue of diversity in the tech scene has seen some recent local discussion, most recently during a panel at this month’s Emerging Technologies for the Enterprise conference.

Gosier has been getting his share of national buzz lately, including a column on CNN that called him “the cell phone revolutionary” and a feature in Nieman Journalism Lab. Both pieces focus on Abayima, his Knight News Challenge-winning side project that aims to turn cell phone SIM cards into storage devices in order to fight government censorship in developing countries. He was also recently featured in the March issue of Black Enterprise, as per Gosier’s Flickr page.
