Girls Exploring Tomorrow’s Tech: Chester County STEM showcase

Middle and high-school age girls got to choose: did they want to explore a power plant? An open air Spanish market? Or art history through the years?

They could do so without having to leave Chester County by using New Worlds, a “virtual learning environment” that was demoed at the Girls Exploring Tomorrow’s Technology event last month.

The event, hosted by the Chester County Economic Development Council, is now in its 13th year and drew more than 500 girls, parents and educators this year, according to a release. The day-long program aims to introduce girls to successful women in tech and show them the different kinds of STEM careers that exist.

Presenters included women like a production test pilot at Boeing who spoke about the aviation industry, a Temple mathematics professor who presented about cryptography, the science of secret codes, and an electrical assembler who works at West Chester drilling rig manufacturer Schramm.
