If you’re running a startup, familiarize yourself with the space, including its failures, said DuckDuckGo founder Gabriel Weinberg in a recent blog post.

The best way to map your space is to go talk to the founders of xyz company. They failed at what you’re trying to do and generally they are very willing to talk you about it. In fact, you may be one of the only people in the world that will truly get what they spent all that time doing.

Weinberg’s words call to mind the goodbye post from the recently-shuttered PackLate in which its team offers advice to other entrepreneurs based on its experience.

Also check out Weinberg’s posts on the “Bullseye Framework” for getting traction and how to use magnitude to measure progress. They’re both preludes to his forthcoming book on traction.
