A team of app developers are bringing the more-than-a-century-old Mummers Parade a little bit further into the future.

From former DreamIt Ventures participants Alfie Hanssen, Kostas “Gus” Nasis and Andres Garcia comes Murmur, an app that lets you vote for your favorite Mummers and post photos and videos of the different comics and brigades.

The app is just for fun and its results won’t have any bearing on the winners of the parade, Hanssen said.

Hanssen, 33, grew up in Fairmount but moved up to New York City this summer for a job at an app development shop. While at DreamIt Ventures in 2010, Hanssen worked on Tembo Studio, a startup that made educational mobile games. Tembo Studio is just a side project for Hanssen now, he said.

The graphic designer on the team, Garcia, 26, lives in Fairmount and is working on social engagement platform Yunno. Garcia worked on Yunno as part of DreamIt Ventures in 2010.

Nasis, 32, is couponing app SnipSnap‘s CTO. He lives in Cherry Hill, N.J. and participated in DreamIt Ventures in 2009 with startup Straight Up English.
