The executive online editor of the Inquirer, with 10 years in daily newspapers and a lifetime in Pennsylvania, is shipping off next month to become the editor of entertainment industry publication Variety.com in Los Angeles, as he tweeted last week.
“I love The Inquirer, and wish everyone there nothing but the best,” he told Technically Philly in an e-mail.
Krewson, 33, noted his enthusiasm for working alongside Leo Wolinsky, the former top editor for the Los Angeles Times who last month was picked to run the L.A. print product Daily Variety. Both Wolinsky and Krewson will report to Variety group editor Tim Gray.

“We considered a lot of great people, but Chris was everybody’s favorite,” Gray said in a statement.
After graduating Penn State, Krewson started his career with the Centre Daily Times, a Knight Ridder paper in State College, before becoming online editor at the Allentown Morning Call, according to theWrap.com. He joined the Inquirer in November 2007.
“I’d characterize my decision as not about the future of print — Variety has a print edition — but as a decision about my future in metro daily journalism. It, or some variation on local news, is what I’ve done for the last 10 years,” said Krewson, who bought a home with his wife in Haverton 18 months ago. “I’m ready to try something new.”
Krewson is the latest in a successive string of high profile departures from subsidiaries of Philadelphia Media Holdings.
Last month, respected Daily News political beat writer Dave Davies returned to WHYY, which gobbled up former Inquirer editorial page editor Chris Satullo in November 2008 and then briefly took on former Inqy columnist and current online news entrepreneur Tom Ferrick.
Last May, Philly.com President Eric Grilly bailed for Comcast, to be replaced in October by Ryan Davis.
