Sam Katz is a politician, historian and business leader.
A native of West Philadelphia, he is widely known in that city for multiple mayoral campaigns, most notably losing in 1999 to John Street by 7,200 votes, in addition to one for governor. He has also developed a popular historical documentary film company called History Making that has produced several films focused on Philadelphia’s past.
He is a 1967 graduate of Central High School and an alumnus of Johns Hopkins University and the New School for Social Research.
