George Washington University junior Max Friedman learned coding because freshman year was rife with challenges. Namely, he lacked a coherent system to invite his friends to the city’s countless shows and festivals.
That’s how he created Happening, an app that offers events that users can swipe left or right on to indicate interest or not — just like with Tinder.
The app, which also takes into account a user’s history to generate event suggestions, launched officially in iOS on Tuesday. An Android version is scheduled for next month.

During its previous beta phase — at GW and Boston University — Happening gathered more than 2,000 users, according to the startup.
Happening was one of eight college startups we profiled at the DC Tech Meetup in April.
