Job Summary:  The Software Development Team Lead provides technical leadership and expertise as well as technical and process oversight of new capabilities, process improvements, and new project initiation as required. Responsible for leading multiple efforts and overseeing day to day operations of team members.    Documents technical and functional specifications and coordinates resources.

Principal Duties:

  • Act as primary interface to IT and other business functions in estimating, scheduling, and managing development projects.
  • Ensure adherence to security standards to maintain PCI/PII compliance and mitigate overall corporate risk. Adhere to Security Team standards in the design, development, installation and upgrade of new and existing technologies.
  • Utilize analytical and problem solving skills to investigate, document, and resolve issues in a timely and courteous manner.
  • Provide leadership on work efforts, and facilitate the definition of project deliverables. Complete project deliverables based on the agreed scope; estimate work effort, duration, resources and requirements.  Maintain project updates, issue resolution documentation and daily support communication with business community.  
  • Manage IT partner expectations; motivate team members; track resources; deliver quality results. Manage project plans and deliverables. Report on team progress.
  • Manage and guide the writing of optimal and reusable code. Lead a team in the development of software, utilizing agreed upon Wawa standards and a formal structured approach that emphasizes correctness, completeness, reusability and maintainability. Software development tactics include problem decomposition, planning, testing and coordination.  Software developed is efficient and maintainable.
  • Execute technical test scripts to ensure a high level of success during user acceptance testing.  Perform integrated testing where possible.
  • Manage support queue and ensure timely responsiveness to troubleshooting requests.  Identify trending issues to assist in determining root cause.  Develop a plan and perform code remediation activities to eliminate issues and manual intervention.   Maintain and report out metrics as agreed.
  • Grow technical knowledge by researching the latest development methods and techniques, learning new technologies, participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks and participating in professional organizations.
  • Effectively communicate throughout all levels of the organization and explain technical issues in a way that is clear and concise. Communicate difficult and sensitive information tactfully.
  • Conduct and coordinate cross-training across the Software Development team.
  • Provide overall direction and support for team and monitor and assess individual work in accordance with high standards of excellence.  Provide feedback, coaching, support, opportunities for development, complete performance appraisals, take corrective action when necessary, and participate in hiring decisions.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology preferred or a technical discipline (e.g., engineering)
  • 10+ plus years of related work experience developing and supporting applications
  • ABAP Development
  • Proven ability to architect technical solutions to business problems.
  • Knowledgeable in modern development techniques and software, especially in support of SAP, Office 365, Azure, Workday and mobile application platforms.
  • Knowledge of Security Technologies and standards (PCI/PII), as well as secure coding techniques and implications.
