Consumer Research Analyst

At Urban Outfitters, we’re all about understanding our customers. We’re looking for a talented personto join our Consumer Research team, within our Marketing and Ecommerce deparment. The ideal candidate is passionate about finding insights in data and creating a wider understanding of our consumer – both in North America and internationally – including their preferences and behaviors. Our team leverages quantitative and qualitative information to synthesize insights that have wide sweeping effects across business strategy, marketing and user-experience decisions.

The Consumer Research Analyst will assist in the development and execution of key team initiatives, including survey programming, assistance with research panels, qualitative analyses and more.


  • Draft proprietary surveys that focus on products, categories, brand experience and macro consumer behavioral trends
  • Partner with analytics and email marketing to identify survey audiences, customer attributes and key data points to monitor and analyze
  • Oversee technical survey execution – including but not limited to programming, QA, copy and creative assets coordination, distribution and monitoring
  • Assist in data analysis and development of actionable insights that focus on business impact
  • Develop strong relationships with cross-functional teams such as analytics, marketing, merchandising, buying, user-experience, CX and our international teams
  • Assist with day-to-day relationships of agency account teams and other support resources
  • Contribute to a highly collaborative, development-focused team culture
  • Own and manage our UO Research Panel with a focus on ad-hoc projects among engaged consumers; developing ideas for maintaining engagement and retention and lead panel recruiting
  • Manage our day-to-day research calendar with guidance from our overarching research strategy and product roadmaps


  • 1-3 years of experience in consumer / market research; internships considered
  • Strong interests in psychology, sociology, behavioral economics and fashion/retail
  • Experience with SPSS, SAS, or other statistical analysis program a plus
  • Experience in building dashboards or similar data visualization
  • Familiarity with Qualtrics or other logic-based survey software
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills, with the ability to identify ‘the story’ from the data and communicate that story in a way that drives business strategy forward
  • Strong sense of curiosity, comfortable with expressing your point of view
  • Solid public speaking and presentation skills
  • Well organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ideally have experience in a retail, eCommerce or CPG capacity, previous work within an agency or consulting environment a plus
  • Previous background in statistics, research, or analytics preferred


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, Statistics, Marketing, Communications, Economics or a related field

Describe a day in the life of a technologist (or three) at URBN HQ.

Yen Duong, Software Engineer at URBN: One of the best things is that most of us are customers of the brands we work on. As a user of my product, it’s easy to understand the feedback we get from customers and the problems we need to solve.

No day is the same. We deploy new code every week. There are always new challenges and we’re allowed to research and introduce new technologies.

Carolina Fojo, UX Research Manager at URBN: Research is such a strategic place to be at URBN. We’re constantly thinking about our customers and the growth opportunities. There’s no end in sight when you’re dealing with millions of customers. The opportunities are endless, which is really exciting.

What do you look for in job candidates?

The hiring process is a little different for each brand and department.

We don’t expect technologists to know all of our brands inside and out. What we really want to see is your coding experience, your passion for new ecommerce technology and the ideas you have to move us forward. We love to hear suggestions.
