Overview
The Sr. Software Engineer will be an integral part of each phase of the software development lifecycle including design, development, deployment and maintenance. The primary focus will be on enhancing our Ecommerce platforms supporting the online shopping experience for our brands including Anthropologie.com, UrbanOutfitters.com, FreePeople.com, bhldn.com and ShopTerrain.com, developing customer facing applications, and the ability to work with or in existing store brands.

 

Responsibilities
  • Design, build, and deliver front end and back end features for URBN’s ecommerce
  • Collaborate with developers, product owners, and architects to design maintainable solutions
  • Seek opportunities to advance and improve URBN’s ecommerce platform
  • Lead investigation and resolution efforts for critical, high impact problems, defects, and incidents
  • Develop functional and performance testing strategies

 

Essential Qualifications
  • Have substantial, demonstrable experience writing high-quality software
  • Self-starter, ready to learn new concepts and technologies
  • Strong understanding of RESTful services design
  • Strong data modeling skills
  • Strong communications skills – able to discuss complex technical problems with executives and non-technical audiences
  • Enjoys mentoring other engineers, working across teams and sharing knowledge with other engineers
  • Experience with related web technologies including JSON, REST, HTML, AJAX, CSS
  • Enjoys working in a collaborative team setting

 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Familiarity with search solutions like Elastic Search and Solr
  • Experience with NoSQL databases such as MongoDB
  • Experience with web frameworks such as Tornado and Spring
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, MIS, or a related field or at least 10  years of relevant experience

Yen Duong, Software Engineer at URBN: One of the best things is that most of us are customers of the brands we work on. As a user of my product, it’s easy to understand the feedback we get from customers and the problems we need to solve.

No day is the same. We deploy new code every week. There are always new challenges and we’re allowed to research and introduce new technologies.

Carolina Fojo, UX Research Manager at URBN: Research is such a strategic place to be at URBN. We’re constantly thinking about our customers and the growth opportunities. There’s no end in sight when you’re dealing with millions of customers. The opportunities are endless, which is really exciting.

We don’t expect technologists to know all of our brands inside and out. What we really want to see is your coding experience, your passion for new ecommerce technology and the ideas you have to move us forward. We love to hear suggestions.
