What our team does:

Nuuly engineering provides services and apps used by our customers, our distribution center, and our analytics, data science, and customer service teams. These services are built on a cutting-edge greenfield tech stack, using streaming data platforms and cloud-based containerized deployments. Our diverse and welcoming team of engineers collaborates closely with the product team to select, plan, and build features that support Nuuly’s customers and rapid growth. Engineers are allowed (and expected) to contribute to the architecture and design of our system.

What you’ll do:

As a Services Engineer, you’ll report to the Services Engineering Manager and your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering streaming software and services in collaboration with the product team.
  • Contributing to solutions, writing and testing code, automating tests and deployment.
  • Supporting the growth of your teammates as engineers and accepting coaching and mentorship.
  • Contribute to engineering excellence by following and improving guidelines and best practices.
  • Participating fully in the Agile Scrum process including speaking up and giving your opinion.
  • Picking up new technologies and completing story tasks (design, code, test, CI/CD, deploy, etc).

 

Basic Qualifications

  • At least 3 years of software development experience
  • At least 1 year of experience with RESTful Web-services
  • At least 1 year of programming experience with Java or JVM-based languages

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 1+ years of experience building Distributed Systems or Microservices
  • 1+ years of experience building and deploying applications on GCP or other cloud platforms
  • Experience with or understanding of streaming data / pubsub / messaging queue technologies such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, or AWS Kinesis 
  • Understanding of Functional Programming principles
  • Experience with Scala, Kotlin, or Python
  • Experience contributing to distributed systems at enterprise scale
  • Experience with Docker, kubernetes, or other containerized systems
  • Understanding of Functional Programming principles

Describe a day in the life of a technologist (or three) at URBN HQ.

Yen Duong, Software Engineer at URBN: One of the best things is that most of us are customers of the brands we work on. As a user of my product, it’s easy to understand the feedback we get from customers and the problems we need to solve.

No day is the same. We deploy new code every week. There are always new challenges and we’re allowed to research and introduce new technologies.

Carolina Fojo, UX Research Manager at URBN: Research is such a strategic place to be at URBN. We’re constantly thinking about our customers and the growth opportunities. There’s no end in sight when you’re dealing with millions of customers. The opportunities are endless, which is really exciting.

Than Hedman, Software Engineering Manager for Services and Streams at Nuuly: It’s a collaborative effort between tech and fashion. We talk to everyone from customer service to warehouse buyers to stylists about what the platform needs to do. I work on facilitating that conversation. 

It’s so cool to be around people who are passionate about things like packing design and logistics.

What do you look for in job candidates?

The hiring process is a little different for each brand and department.

We don’t expect technologists to know all of our brands inside and out. What we really want to see is your coding experience, your passion for new ecommerce technology and the ideas you have to move us forward. We love to hear suggestions.
