Platform Engineer




Nuuly is searching for a full-stack Engineer to join our growing Platform Engineering team. As a Platform Team engineer, you will build features to enhance our system and harden the Nuuly Platform. In addition, you should be able to serve as a proactive and deeply technical guide to our business team as they adopt features built by all engineering teams. Your goal will be to apply your deep technical expertise to help them preclude issues before they occur. Qualified candidates will bring a mix of strong communication skills and technical depth, as the role will involve working directly with platform engineers and the business team.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to build a breadth of experience with Kafka, Spring, Micronaut, GCP, and Kubernetes. Throughout these interactions, you will develop strong relationships with business teams and ensure exemplary delivery standards.

ResponsibilitiesA typical week at Nuuly in this role may involve:

  • Working directly with internal teams throughout their onboarding phase to solve operational and technical problems and remove blockers to their deployment and usage of Nuuly platforms.
  • Collaborating with our Platform Team Manager and Account teams to develop support tools and solutions.
  • Engaging with operations and engineering to proactively prepare for upgrades, go-lives, and other important events to ensure success during critical periods.
  • Contributing to process development - we're a young team, so we're looking for people who want to help us lay the foundation for growing efficiently and with a best-in-class culture.
  • When necessary, roll up your sleeves and dig in to help address customer issues and production support alongside Core Engineering.
  • Identify and create product enhancements for enhancements and existing features and build internal tooling.
  •  Assisting in remove scaling bottlenecks in critical services
Job SkillsRequired skills and experience

  • Excitement to learn about streaming data and to become a domain expert in Apache Kafka, Kubernetes, and GCP
  • Experience in diagnosing, reproducing, and resolving issues
  • Knowledge of alerting and monitoring best practices
  • Desire to make customers successful through direct and indirect interaction
  • Excellent written and communication skills
  • Experience troubleshooting applications running on Linux (resource contention, network bottlenecks, etc.)
  • Operational knowledge of Java applications or at least one other programming language (preferably JVM-based)

Other nice to have:

  • Experience with major cloud providers such as GCP, AWS, and Azure
  • Experience with at least one mainstream distributed system (e.g., Kafka, Spark, Storm, Cassandra, etc.)
  • Knowledge of container technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes
