Interactive Developer

Summary

Reporting to the Assistant Managing Editor for Digital, you will be part of a small, multi-disciplinary team of editors and developers dedicated to experimental and interactive storytelling both on and off-platform. You will work with reporters, editors, photographers, designers, product managers and engineers to create rich and engaging stories.

We are looking for someone who works collaboratively, learns quickly and is an excellent communicator. Your portfolio demonstrates strong design work, innovative storytelling techniques and UX knowledge. You should also have extensive experience with web development technologies. Experience with video, photography, illustration, server-side technologies, and/or game mechanics is a big plus.

Who We’re Looking For

• 4+ years of web design experience.
• Experience in media, or a media-adjacent industry a plus.
• Strong visual and interactive design skills – a clear grasp of typography, layout, color, motion and behavior.
• 2 + years with client-side development, including HTML, CSS and Javascript, including frameworks like React.
• Basic knowledge of Git.
• Ability to convey interactive story ideas and complex interactions with wireframes and prototypes.
• Demonstrated ability to envision and direct the creation of presentations that intelligently incorporate visual media and text.
• Attention to detail and excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to meet deadlines and to adapt to change in a daily, unpredictable news production environment.
