Our Product Manager will be focused on the development of the talent platform by enabling a better user experience for job seekers and enhanced results for clients. You will report to the VP of Product and collaborate with our Client Success Manager, Marketing Manager and newsroom to improve the quality and execution of existing digital products. Working hand-in-hand with the team to recommend improvements in the development, marketing, and execution of digital products, the Product Manager will work closely with our part-time web developer and serve as a first responder for tech bugs reported by clients and readers. This role will be uniquely tasked with doing routine QA of existing digital products to ensure they are operating effectively.

This position is a full-time salaried position that includes a base salary and benefits.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the VP of Product to develop and execute Technical.ly’s quarterly tech and product roadmap. This includes both the site platforms and our product offerings to deliver maximum results for clients.
  • Oversee the development of the company’s ATS into a recruiting-inspired talent search and placement tool. 
  • Partner with our web developer to communicate priorities, functionality and issues.
  • Support the maintenance and development of the company’s tech stack, primarily through quarterly roadmaps and shorter-term sprints, to drive organizational goals, including its career navigation priorities
  • Provide recommendations for all our services, from editorial to events, on how these efforts can strengthen our database and other talent or related career services.
  • Maintain analytics dashboards to streamline reporting efforts on products like Talent and newsletters. 
  • Deliver quarterly client data for use in Quarterly Business Reports (QBRs) built by the client success team for our Sales representatives – this work leads to identifying the ways in which we’re making an impact. 
  • Provide project management oversight for our platforms and products.
  • Technical management for digital tools, including Google Analytics, Hubspot, Zapier, Instapage, WooCommerce, and DoubleClick for Publishers.
  • Ensure tech systems across the company’s tech stack are integrated. 
  • First responder for tech bugs and assist Web Developer in ensuring they are inventoried and prioritized through the Dev Ticketing system.

Our ideal candidate has:

  • 5+  years of work experience in digital products.
  • A thoughtful, consultative approach to data analysis.
  • A steady, relationship-oriented demeanor for working through obstacles with teammates.
  • A detail-oriented mindset and a passion for building something great.
  • A passion for user experience and strong functional design. HTML knowledge a plus.
  • Experience with Google Analytics; SEO experience a plus.

We publish two niche news sites: Technical.ly, which focuses on local tech communities in the Mid-Atlantic, and Generocity.org, which focuses on the social impact community of Philadelphia. Our clients are growing organizations with hiring and retention needs (employer brand marketing and other talent services), among others who want to meet members of our community.

Our Story: Founded in Philadelphia in 2009 by Temple University graduates with backgrounds in journalism, the media startup has grown to 20 teammates and a wider network of contributors. 

Our Location: We are headquartered in the historic Curtis Center on beautiful Washington Square in Old City Philadelphia, with additional team members working out of vibrant co-working facilities in Baltimore, DC, and Delaware.

You report often on diversity in the tech industry, but do you walk the walk?

We believe our staff should represent the communities we serve. Currently, our team is majority people of color and 47% women. 

We also take pride in having had very real and very important conversations on what it means to be a welcoming place for people of different ages, for people who approach mental health differently and who simply work differently, too. We’ve never slapped a DEI banner up and called it a day. Diversity is a constant process, not a destination.

 

Do I have to be a tech expert to work for Technically Media?

Expert? No. But depending on your role, you may need some level of tech savvy. If you are a lead reporter, you’ll be expected to have or to acquire enough knowledge about technology business to do the job. Our product team owns, uses and builds upon our tech stack, but if you work in business development, marketing or operations, it’s more important that you know how to solve problems for a community than that you know what Kubernetes is. There is plenty of room to learn on the job.
