Technically Media, a local niche news, jobs and events organization best known for its local tech news network Technical.ly, is seeking a reporters for a yearlong project to report feature stories on economic change in Pittsburgh.
This project, to be named later, aims to explore the tech and innovation ecosystem in Pittsburgh and the surrounding region, including employer and hiring trends. Its first year is being supported by InnovatePGH, a public-private partnership of the Pittsburgh Innovation District, which will not have editorial oversight.
Technical.ly is seeking to work with multiple reporters in the Pittsburgh region. Throughout 2020, Technical.ly is producing 12 enterprise stories, including interviews with multiple stakeholders and analysis of the dynamics of economic transformation. Each story pays starting at $300, with additional considerations depending on experience and depth of reporting. Stories will begin running in March 2020, and extend through the end of 2020.
These stories will focus heavily on the dynamics shaping talent attraction and retention within Pittsburgh, and the implications of the growth of the technology industry for the region’s future. Reporting will be done independently and without oversight outside of Technical.ly’s editorial team.
At Technically Media, we believe that journalism is a necessary act for strengthening any community. This project will be carried out in the spirit of that mission.
This position is great for someone who has journalism experience and is seeking something experimental to develop their reporting chops. Likely, this is for an existing freelance reporter who is excited by a meaningful reporting project aimed at advancing the conversation on talent and growing industries. Bonus points for being excited by local news, and Pittsburgh’s future specifically.
