The editorial intern will work directly with the managing editor to provide editorial content relevant to’s four markets: Philadelphia, Baltimore, D.C. and Delaware.

The editorial intern will be part of our ongoing news experiment, developing various content types to attract more core readers and community members — mainly technologists and entrepreneurs. We cover startups, local government, access-related nonprofits, universities, hiring trends, sciences and the like.



  • Interest in media, particularly local online news
  • Interest in local technology and entrepreneurship communities
  • Some experience writing online news articles
  • Ability to find and pitch stories on your own


  • Execute suggested evergreen and other resource content
  • Pitch and write at least two stories a week
  • Write crisp copy under tight deadlines
  • Work collaboratively with our editors and reporters
  • Phone or email interviews when appropriate
  • Work out of Philadelphia based office for 16 hours a week, with flexibility around your schedule

  • The ins and outs of a small, local digital news company and the communities it covers
  • Quick, snappy writing about niche topics
  • The intersection of and differences between editorial, marketing and product
  • Organization, time management, multitasking, prioritization

Our summer internship begins roughly the week of May 15 and ends roughly the week Aug. 15. This internship comes with a stipend of $1,000 ($500 paid after the first month and $500 paid on the intern’s last day).
