Springboard Collaborative invites talented and passionate candidates to apply for the position of Lead Full-Stack Developer. The Lead Full-Stack Developer will be responsible for internal and outsourced technical product development and maintenance. A successful candidate will be proactive, attentive to detail with strong analytical skills, flexible and adaptable, calm under pressure, and able to think strategically.

Springboard Collaborative closes the literacy gap by closing the gap between home and school. We coach educators and family members to help kids learn to read by 4th grade. Springboard envisions a world in which all children have the requisite literacy skills to access life opportunities. The Lead Full-Stack Developer supports this goal by ensuring our program’s apps are effective, helpful, and smooth.

The Lead Full-Stack Developer will report to the Sr. Director of Product Engineering and work as part of the Engineering, Systems and Products Team team at Springboard. This is a great opportunity to support an entrepreneurial team in maximizing the impact of a rapidly growing organization.

Here are your priorities in the first year:

  • You will lead the technical development team to execute the Family Companion app and Teacher Companion app roadmaps.
  • You will lead the technical development team to execute the Parent-Facing Literacy Screener roadmap.
  • You will work with the Systems team to develop customized integrations to support the organization's growth plan.
  • You will ensure alignment of our technology framework with Springboard’s strategic and product visions.
  • You will investigate and integrate product development best practices.

Here are your responsibilities within and beyond the first year:

  • You will lead the outsourced technical development team to support.
  • You will lead new technical product development.
  • You will investigate and integrate product development best practices.
  • You will work with the Scrum Master and Product Managers to define and implement new technical products.
  • You will collaborate with members of your own department and across departments.

Here are qualifications we expect the right candidate to have:

  • You have a bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
  • You are proficiency in basic computer applications (Word, Excel, Google Suite) with the ability to learn new systems
  • You have 3+ years of full-stack development experience in Javascript, React, and Ruby on Rails
  • You have experience leading and working in a fast-paced, dynamic team environment.
  • You are able to work flexible hours and interface with the teams outside standard business hours when needed
  • You have experience working with and leading off-shore development teams
  • You are versed in Agile development methodologies including CI/CD and the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)

Compensation for this role: Each role at Springboard is placed in a compensation band with 5 levels. Generally, we expect all candidates that meet the hiring criteria to be offered the midpoint of the band. This role sits within Band 6. The midpoint of this band is $138,020. The actual level of the successful candidate (and corresponding salary) will be based on compensable factors such as job-relevant education, job-relevant experience, training, licensure, demonstrated competencies, and other factors. You may also be eligible for Springboard's collective bonus program.

Our process to determine compensation: Springboard does not negotiate the offered salary during the offer conversation. Throughout the interview process, we will evaluate your alignment with the compensable factors listed in the job description. From there, we will determine your starting salary on a level within the job band.

  • Paid Time Off (PTO) - Four weeks annually—we’ll prorate it from the date of your hire. At Springboard, time off isn’t earned. Everyone gets access to their time at the start of the calendar year.
  • More PTO! - All eleven federal holidays, including Juneteenth, Indigenous Peoples’ Day, and Martin Luther King Jr. Day, plus two extra floating holidays! If a holiday occurs over the weekend, we take off during the week. Election Day. YOUR. BIRTHDAY.
  • Paid Leave - Parental Leave (12 weeks after the first 6 months of employment). Marriage Leave (five days).
  • Under the weather? - We don’t cap the number of sick days available to employees and have been providing extra PTO during COVID surges.

Location and travel

Applications are welcome from any location within the United States. This role will be performed primarily remotely, with occasional travel to participate in team retreats. Springboard Collaborative’s headquarter office is in Philadelphia, PA.
