Kimetrica (www.kimetrica.com) seeks qualified candidates for the position of Software Engineer, React Team Lead for a major, five-year United States Agency for International Development (USAID) activity based in Washington, DC.

If food security, research, and life-saving data transparency are important to you, consider applying your skills as the React Team Lead. This is an opportunity to lead development of a public-facing data portal in React that allows anyone, including researchers and decision makers, easy access to potentially life saving data on food security.  Users can discover, explore and visualize data using a range of tools, including charts and maps. The React Team Lead will ensure that this portal has a best-in-class, web-based analytical tool for food security data used by planners to make life saving decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Develop responsive front ends for web applications using React. The data portal is the primary application, using React, Highcharts, and Mapbox to deliver advanced data exploration and analysis. The React team also designs and implements customizations to upstream projects with React front ends including Superset (visualization) and Kobo Toolbox (primary data collection)
  • Design highly attractive and intuitive user interfaces and liaise with in-house and external graphics and communications experts
  • Manage other front-end developers or outsource contractors as required
  • Create GUI proposals and mock ups with input from analysts and subject-matter experts, develop dashboards and data visualizations
  • Implement online mapping and geospatial analysis solutions using Mapbox and Deck.gl or other JavaScript mapping libraries.
  • Work with Python back end developers to ensure seamless, fast and optimized integration and rapid troubleshooting
  • Optimize user experience and liaise with users groups and UX experts
  • Develop efficient and agile processes for interface design, development, testing and acceptance
  • Conduct research and ensure that we provide the best available front-end technology to our clients and advise Kimetrica on the tech stack.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (computer science, database management, web design, etc.) and a minimum of 6 years relevant professional work experience or a Master’s degree in a relevant field and a minimum of 4 years relevant professional work experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • Detail-oriented and organized;
  • Able to use multiple technology platforms and to pick up on technologies quickly
  • Fluency in English is required

Preferred Requirements

  • Experience working in NGOs and/or international organizations
  • Cross-cultural working experience
  • Experience working with web-based project management applications, including video conferencing technologies
  • Professional fluency in Spanish or French a plus
