Senior Software Engineer

  • Location

    Philadelphia

We’re hiring senior engineers in our Philadelphia office, who are passionate about technology and education, to help build out our Practice product. Practice is the world’s most robust platform for teaching and learning real-world skills — the kinds of skills you have to practice to master. Our customers include major brands in both the higher education and corporate domains. On a given day, our clients are using Practice to demonstrate proper techniques for tying surgical knots, learning to speak to customers appropriately in difficult situations, practice arguing a case in front of a judge and much more.

Our product team doesn’t throw specs over some imaginary wall to engineering, and engineering doesn’t throw code over some imaginary wall to QA. We all collaborate together. We highly value innovation, so much so that we have quarterly Hackweeks. A week each quarter to work on relevant pet projects and features.

Our Philadelphia office is located in the heart of Center City at 16th and Market, on top of Suburban Station and near pretty much every other form of transit into the city.

What we do:

  • We are full stack engineers with experience building web scale services in a loosely coupled but highly integrated system, as well as developing web scale single-page web apps with modern web technology.
  • We use Ruby, Rails, Node.js, React, PostgreSQL, Linux, and our platform runs on AWS.

What we look for:

  • A willingness to work wherever in the stack you can be most impactful.
  • Ability to solve complex problems requiring in-depth analysis.
  • Over 7 years of professional software engineering experience.
  • Demonstrated experience as the go to person and in mentoring others.
  • Knowledge of Agile best practices.
  • Capable Communicator.
  • Crazy passionate about learning new stuff.
  • An interest in writing clean, well-organized/modularized, high-quality code
  • BS in Computer Science or related degree preferred.
