About the position

As Director of Product Design, you will be entrusted with our UX/UI staff, the design vision for our clients’ digital products, and will continue to nurture a robust user-centered design practice focused on quality, reliable delivery of digital products to our clients, continuous improvement, and knowledge-sharing.


Beyond overseeing our team of UX/UI designers and engineers, you will play a key role in our rapid growth as we specialize and develop new design capabilities as well as staying close to the work product by helping with design, research, sales, and strategy as needed.


Leadership and Vision

  • Support mature, sustainable organizational growth while preserving a strong design team culture at scale.  
  • Define departmental strategy aligned with the larger organizational direction and vision set by the executive team.
  • Build and present impactful presentations to pitch existing clients and new business opportunities
  • Manage and mentor UX/UI designers and engineers at PromptWorks.
  • Oversee projects from a design perspective, ensuring our designers deliver the quality and consulting expertise that PromptWorks is known for.
  • Support strategic accounts in collaboration with the client engagement team.
  • Continuously refine strategies for growing the capabilities of the team through training, internal projects, and judicious use of emerging technologies in internal and client work.
  • Fulfill our talent needs and business interests by maintaining a strong network and presence in the community including contributing to relevant speaking events, conferences, blog posts, and publications.

People management

  • Inspire team members to do outstanding work and remove impediments to their happiness, growth, and productivity.
  • Develop and support professional growth, competency development, knowledge sharing, consulting skills, and overall productivity.
  • Define & iterate on our performance evaluation framework including growth of individual contributors and leadership, promotion pathways, goal-setting with key metrics, and evaluation criteria for design staff.
  • Define and manage strategy for attracting and retaining top talent.

Process and policy development

  • Define the PromptWorks design process and advise on tool choices, work structure, and design solutions as appropriate.
  • Responsible for establishing and/or refining the process for:
  • Customer needs research including methodology, analysis, reporting, and training.
  • Identifying and translating customer insights into recommendations for product features.
  • Feature prioritization that balances customer needs and measurable business goals.
  • Usability testing and product optimization research.
  • Direct process improvements in the UX team and contribute to process improvements across the company.
  • Manage the UX budget and coordinate with the management team on compensation decisions.
  • Oversee recruiting and hiring for design positions and streamline processes while maintaining quality talent.

Ideal candidates have the following skills:

  • 10+ years in design and UX, with recent experience leading design strategy and growing teams.
  • Proven experience with iterative, user-centered design practices, user research methodologies and accessibility techniques for web and mobile product design.
  • Proven ability to think critically and solve business problems in new and creative ways using information architecture, wireframing, usability best practices, design systems, and prototyping.
  • Proven experience creating industry-leading visual design by utilizing style guides, UI kits, and screen comps for web applications, mobile apps, and interactive products.
  • Substantial experience working with a team on complex projects and presenting solutions effectively and efficiently.
  • You’ll be an active part of our business development process, so you must be comfortable selling a creative vision to clients & internally.
  • Management experience, including performance evaluation, personnel management, hiring, and recruiting.
  • Expertise in product design, strategy, service design, user experience, and research in an Agile environment.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage many initiatives and facilitate organizational improvement.
