We publish and; our clients are growing organizations with hiring and retention needs (employer brand marketing and other talent services), among others who want to meet members of our community.

We already have a vibrant community of 100,000 professionals and dozens of the fastest-growing tech and product teams across the mid-Atlantic. Now we are seeking an experienced, creative and mission-minded Product Director who wants to help us reach a new level of meaningful connections within our community between readers and clients — with special focus on talent services. You’ll be eager for feedback from readers, and you’ll be an asset for our sales team to help demonstrate our value for prospective clients.

Your job is to help us build, deliver and improve our products and services — most centrally our Talent Pro community of employer brand clients — by understanding customer needs and building programs and features that deliver value and results. You oversee the growth and strength of our database (Hubspot and an integrated ATS), which is a powerful tool for our quarterly tech hiring events and the future of our Match pilot program of direct placement referral. 

We are a close-knit diverse team of 17 full-timers, supported by several devoted contractors. This role reports directly to the CEO and oversees our Product team, including a Product Manager, contract Web Developer and event contractors. You will work closely with the leaders of our Sales & Marketing team (who oversees our Buyer Journey) and our Editorial team (which oversees our Reader Journey) to drive connections between those buyers and readers. This role is considered an important part of reaching our next stage of growth and effectiveness, so we will be looking for someone ready to influence strategy while still appreciative of the scrappy nature of a team that uses community journalism as its ‘secret sauce.’

The Product Director will relentlessly challenge, tweak and improve the methods we use to drive value for readers and clients. You will view our quarterly events, Talent Pro hiring company community, web presence and other services as a toolkit to drive maximum value for our community of professionals. Our Editorial team is working to expand and engage our community; our Sales and Marketing team is working to expand and engage our client base. You will help these two sides come together. This work is primarily done via our brand, though we believe there is future opportunity for growth with our smaller, one-market sister site


  • Hold above all else our pursuit of product-market fit
  • Define and relentlessly improve our methods for making connections between our clients and readers, with special focus on values-focused career placements
  • Improve our quantifiable measurements of our impact (we have a job placement survey and basic metrics but this must be improved)
  • Oversee and develop our quarterly Product team OKRs and product roadmap, including feature development for Talent Pro and other site features informed by community
  • Contribute to go-to-market strategy of our products and services to maximize value created for clients and community 
  • Support the development and continued improvement of our ‘ideal customer profile,’ alongside more general buyer personas 
  • Defend, expand and improve our database, which serves as the bedrock of our community of professionals
  • Oversee our Product Manager and Web Developer with strategy, technical insight, and goal setting. 
  • With Client Success and Product Manager support, inform Quarterly Business Reviews for existing Clients
  • Oversee our quarterly jobseeker events, with the support of events contractors who lead event logistics 
  • Maintain deep knowledge of the needs and values of our client base, with special focus on our Talent Pro community
  • Test, listen, improve; Test, listen, improve; Test, listen, improve the ways we drive value
  • Support Buyer Journey by contributing to sales approach with leads and clients
  • Work with the Sales and Marketing team to share and improve the accuracy and effectiveness of our sales efforts. Support their sales efforts when necessary
  • Work with our Editorial team to improve the audience building and community listening efforts with an emphasis on the development of the Reader Journey


  • You may have at least 4-5 years of product experience within talent services, a community-focused organization or other double-sided marketplace
  • Adept at listening to customer needs and reader value
  • Informed on concepts like product-market fit; lean startup methodology product development; ideal customer profile 
  • Curiosity around product enhancements and methodologies 
  • Experience with project management, product roadmapping and systems like OKRs
  • Creative, resourceful and effective developer of products that solve problems
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, with a strength in diplomacy and community organizing
  • Comfort with web analytics and other data tools
  • Experience with talent acquisition; bonus points for employer branding chops
  • Experience with CRM; bonus points for Hubspot specifically
  • Experience with Applicant Tracking Systems
  • Comfort with Google Suite and Instapage
  • Comfort with task management tools; we use Asana
  • Experience with WordPress as a CMS
  • Passionate about journalism as a strategy for community development 

Other information

  • Position is salaried, based on experience.
  • Position includes competitive health insurance coverage (we offer a defined contribution that amounts on average to 70 percent of an individual plan), including primary, vision and dental

  • Position includes a 401k plan, which includes a 4% match
  • This role is remote flexible. Bonus points if you would be able to operate out of Technically Media’s office at the Curtis Center in Philadelphia when possible but this is not a requirement. 
  • Though results matter most and Technically Media prides itself on flexibility, as a guide, this role might expect to work roughly 40-45 hours a week.
  • Technically Media offers 10 paid holidays per year; 15 PTO days accrued per year with additional PTO offered progressively; as well as a month of paid parental leave.
  • Technically Media additionally closes its offices for the final week of the year to relax and unwind before each new year. This serves as additional paid holiday time.
