Position Overview

This is an exciting opportunity to be a key transformation contributor as Penn Mutual continues to be a leading innovator in the insurance industry. This influential leader works with business and technical partners at all levels to define and implement the vision and roadmap for our life products with a primary focus on product development, execution, and continued inforce support.  They are a passionate advocate and doer who ensures clarity of vision and guides execution through to completion. They prioritize the approach and work closely with Agile development teams and business teams to ensure work execution meets strategic goals of the company.


  • Build and maintain relationships with leaders and key stakeholders to understand, articulate and communicate product development and support priorities.
  • Provide visibility into product implementation and support efforts, including successes and challenges, for all levels of the organization (individual teams, department, program, executive levels, and enterprise wide).
  • Demonstrate passion as an advocate and doer who will see a vision through to completion. Hands on execution when needed, guide and advise where appropriate, constantly in touch with remaining steps toward implementation.
  • Exhibit enthusiasm in building consensus and inspiring collaboration in solving opportunities. Encourage and build enthusiasm in others.
  • Perform duties of a Product Owner
    • Determine and articulate Minimum Viable Product. That is, identify those portions of an overall vision that are minimally necessary to achieve Penn Mutual’s objectives.
    • Articulate, elicit and inspire others to execute and support a compelling product vision and strategy.
    • Collaborate with other Product Owners and partners to understand inter-team dependencies.
    • Elicit customer and stakeholder feedback on the quality and accuracy of delivered product features.
    • Construct and communicate release plan to stakeholders.


Required Experience

  • 5+ years relevant experience in life insurance with a deep understanding of product characteristics
  • 5+ years relevant experience in leading teams, driving initiatives forward, and working with various levels and functions across a company.
  • Experience with and understanding of policy administration systems desired.

What kind of tech skills do you expect candidates to have?

We’re a heavy data shop, so we look for people with experience in Enterprise Services, API interfaces and asynchronous processing.

Developers ideally have the following experience under their belt:

  • Front-end developers: React, NodeJS, Elastic Search
  • Junior developers: Solid Java skills, basic and associated like Spring; XML experience; some experience with API (3-5 years)
