It’s an exciting time to be joining FinLocker!

FinLocker is on a mission to create financially fit homeowners and digitally empowered lenders. Through our FinLocker app, we provide the tools and transparency for a streamlined and stress-free home ownership process.

Our current focus is helping first-time homebuyers become mortgage-ready. Your perspective as a college student will help us understand how graduates can become financially independent, manage student loan debt, and begin to save for financial goals. These insights will benefit our clients who are some of the leading mortgage companies, businesses, colleges, and dedicated non-profits in the country.

Can you help us grow and evolve our digital product? We seek someone who wants to plug into our product vision, partner closely with a team on understanding a specific feature we are building out, and help us deliver the analysis and research needed to build it right.

Our internship program is paid, and runs for 10-12 weeks for summer 2022. The internship can be remote or located in one of our office locations (St. Louis, MO or McLean, VA outside Washington, DC) if you already reside there.

Responsibilities:

  • Help structure and participate in consumer testing and research, ranging from surveys to focus groups to 1:1 interviews
  • Assist in creating UX/UI artifacts – user journeys, personas, wireframes, page flows, interactions – to assist product, design and dev teams in understanding core product features and capabilities
  • Work with Design team to inventory current state – design patterns, typography, colors, icons and content – to work towards creating a comprehensive enterprise design system
  • Develop high fidelity mockups that align with product goals and client brand and assets
  • Conduct market research on competitive and analogous products, particularly related to homeownership, financial management, and financial education
  • Participate in agile team ceremonies
  • Track product opportunity areas and options, both visually and in summary form

About You:

  • Currently pursuing or recently obtained a bachelor’s degree
  • Interested in understanding and exploring consumer needs, particularly related to digital products
  • Logical and analytical thinker, with excellent attention to detail
  • Creative and resourceful problem-solver
  • Ability to simplify complex information and explain it in plain terms
  • Strong written and communication skills
  • Proficient computer skills; mobile app and web-savvy
  • Able to utilize and provide work using Microsoft Word, Excel & Outlook
  • Able to work 40 hours a week on Eastern Standard Time
  • The Product teams work remotely, so you’ll need to have high-speed internet access and a dedicated workspace. We will provide a laptop computer for the duration of your internship.

To apply: Email your resume with a brief cover letter explaining what interests you about a career in fintech AND/OR product design development, and what you would like to achieve during your internship with FinLocker.

What are people often surprised to learn about your company?

As a B2B2C company, our direct customers are primarily mortgage lenders, but we only succeed if we build an incredible experience for our end consumers, who are everyday people seeking to buy a home. Our private-labeled product works seamlessly with our clients’ portfolio of digital offerings, so consumers see a single brand and financial fitness experience when they access FinLocker through one of our clients.

Do I need experience in finance to work at FinLocker?

We don’t require any industry-specific experience, in either financial services or home-buying. While it can sometimes make the learning curve easier, we also value the outside perspective that people from other industries can bring to our platform and product. Often, we find that our tech team members become more and more interested in the financial elements of the platform as they build it — especially when they see how it positively affects customers’ lives, or even their own.

Talk to us about what it's like to work for FinLocker.

Being a startup, things can feel fast and furious at times, but we aim to keep things low-pressure by creating a healthy balance between drive and flexibility. With Covid-19 still affecting our lives, we make sure our employees have the flexibility they need, whether that means working remotely, logging off when the day is over so they can be fully present with their families or having what they need to work from home productively. We also close the office between Christmas Eve and the New Year so that everyone can enjoy the break and be with family.

While our offices are in St. Louis and the Washington, DC area, we have team members scattered across the country and globe. We are flexible about how we work, as long as the work is getting done!

We want our employees to do what they love, so we offer career growth in all directions — not just vertically, but also into different types of roles. Even within our small team there are several who have explored and then transitioned into roles in different departments, as part of a personal career growth path. As a young, flexible and modern company, there are opportunities to make an impact!
