The Philadelphia Academy of School Leaders, Inc. (School Leaders) was created in 2015 based on the belief that
Philadelphia’s strength as a city depends on its ability to deliver quality educational opportunities for all 215,000
students in its district, charter, and faith-based schools.

Realizing this vision requires strong leadership in our schools. Recognizing that leadership is the catalyst for change,
School Leaders invests in leaders across district, charter, and faith-based schools in Philadelphia. Our programs
develop principals – and the system leaders who supervise and support principals – by providing hands-on, relevant,
and actionable training and cultivating collaboration among a network of outstanding peers. We provide school
and system leaders with the necessary tools, skills, and networks to elevate their performance and improve school
and student outcomes. Now in our fifth year, School Leaders serves nearly one-third of Philadelphia’s principals,
the critical mass needed to drive systemic change for our city’s schools and students.

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Data and Evaluation will play a key role in improving core
program functions through ongoing evaluation and data management efforts. As School Leaders expands in size
and programs, we seek an experienced Director of Data and Evaluation to ensure the organization is uses data
systems, analysis, and a continuous improvement cycle to inform program design and evaluation.

The Director of Data and Evaluation’s responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:

Program Evaluation
● Set and implement the measurement/research agenda in collaboration with the ED
● Manage a robust program evaluation with an external partner to ensure School Leaders has proof of
programs’ and services’ impact on students, leaders, schools, and school systems
● Design tools to collect data aligned to short- and long-term metrics
o Define what data should and can be tracked, measured, and analyzed with respect to programs
and services
o Create data collection tools and protocols
o Develop research/evaluation plans and strategies to measure participant learning, impact on
practice, and impact on student outcomes
● Recommend strategic or operational adjustments based on research and evaluation findings to keep
organization on track to reach the long-term vision

Continuous Program Improvement
● Implement a continuous quality improvement process that systematically captures and analyzes impact
data and feedback from program participants and partners
● Evaluate the impact of existing and future programs
o Identify short- and long-term metrics aligned with organizational vision and theory of action
o Measure impact overall, by program, and by event
o Conduct data analysis, synthesize trends, and identify implications
● Provide data to drive decision-making for programs and services
o Use findings intentionally and proactively to inform program/service design and improve program
and service implementation
o Create ongoing feedback systems and processes to improve day-to-day practice
o Support program staff to draw meaningful connections and identify programmatic implications
● Use data and trends to inform multi-year strategic plan and support organizational growth
● Articulate organizational data story to current and future investors, partners, and the public
o Summarize data and create clear, compelling visualizations
o Contribute to stakeholder decks, grant proposals, and reports
o Identify compelling ways to communicate research and evaluation results clearly and effectively
to a diverse array of audiences

Data Systems and Management
● Develop a data repository and system with clear fields and business rules
● Identify and codify standardized processes to collect, clean, store, track, update, and analyze data
● Train all staff and consultants on how to use data systems and process across all programs
● Coordinate data collection from multiple sources, including school systems, publicly available data, and
internally collected data

Additionally, the Director of Data and Evaluation will fulfill any other responsibilities as needed or assigned by the
Executive Director.

attention to detail, and is able to plan, multi-task, adapt, and balance requests from many stakeholders
● Demonstrates an entrepreneurial mindset and ability to work in a fast-paced environment
● Maintains a positive attitude, flexibility, and humor

The ideal candidate will have the following experience:
● A minimum of 5 years of professional experience working in program evaluation and/or data analysis
● Significant experience with at least several of the following functions: data analysis, data management,
program evaluation, data-informed program design, operations, and strategic planning
● Demonstrable track record of developing tools and/or evaluation instruments, managing data systems,
collecting and analyzing data, and making data-driven decisions
● Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office and Google-based applications
● Familiarity with the K-12 education sector; teaching experience preferred, but not required
● Bachelor degree required. Master’s degree in statistics, education, public policy, management, or related
field preferred.
