ABOUT THE POSITION, the local tech news network published by Technically Media, is hiring a Business Development Manager to grow and cultivate new business relationships in the Baltimore region. is currently published in five mid-Atlantic communities, including Washington D.C., Brooklyn, Philadelphia and Delaware, in addition Baltimore. We also produce more than 30 tech and entrepreneurship events per year including Baltimore Innovation Week,  Philly Tech Week and our hiring event series NET/WORK.

We launched our Baltimore coverage in 2012, and since then we have been read by tens of thousands of technologists and entrepreneurs each month and convened many of them at dozens of events. Essentially, we connect our tech communities through editorial, events and services, including growing companies with the technical talent they need to thrive. We give our clients places to meet them and help them tell their stories both digitally and in-person.

We are looking for a Business Development Manager who can translate our local impact in Baltimore into new client relationships, while supporting our existing clients. The Business Development Manager is a natural relationship builder, comfortable in new client situations, and experienced in consultative selling. The person who succeeds in this role can balance achieving short-term revenue targets while establishing meaningful, on-going community and client relationships.

There will be an expected Year 1 revenue target for this position, with sales targets across our four revenue lines:

  • Technically Talent: our new recruiting platform for tech hiring managers which helps companies quickly establish their candidate pipeline, tell their culture stories to our highly qualified audience and ultimately find the best candidates for key tech roles. We have onboarded 15 clients in our first year and expect significant growth opportunities in 2018.
  • Technically Creative: our advertising and sponsored content offerings which connect companies to our local tech audience via our unique storytelling approach (example).
  • Technically Events: our sponsorship sales for our local community events in Baltimore (Baltimore Innovation Week, NET/WORK Baltimore and Super Meetup Baltimore)
  • Technically Studio: our custom events and related programs for larger enterprise clients. Since launching, we have produced Tomorrow Tour, a multi-city entrepreneurial series for Comcast, as well as private career fairs and local hackathons among others.

This position is a full-time salaried position based in Baltimore at the Emerging Technology Center in Highlandtown. The position includes a base salary and performance bonuses based on goal attainment. It offers health insurance, which includes vision and dental benefits. We offer 15 days of Paid Time Off to begin, plus 9 holidays, available flex time, a flexible and fun work environment, a monthly IT stipend and access to a company 401(k) plan.  We have a strong internal company culture across our distributed team of 20. You will report directly to our Senior Business Manager.


  • Understand how to explain and be passionate about’s mission of local community development becoming a trusted, expert consultant.
  • Prospecting, qualifying, contacting and developing new relationships in the Baltimore technology and innovation communities. Success in this role is a result of a consultative introduction to our fully developed portfolio and custom options to a new base of growing and mid-size (50-500 employees) corporate clients
  • Meet or exceed engagement and revenue goals
  • Travel regularly among your community in the greater Baltimore region to meet clients and attend relevant and adjacent community events. Occasional travel to our Philadelphia headquarters.
  • Documentation of information and client touch points within Hubspot, our CRM
  • Must be available evenings and weekends as required for events and other activities, though other hours are flexible and we celebrate work-life balance


  • BS/BA in Advertising, Marketing, Business, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years sales experience, which may include agency (recruiting, creative or other), event sponsorship, digital advertising, software service or enterprise sales or nonprofit fundraising.
  • The ability to develop custom solutions which address a variety of client needs.
  • The ability to collaborate and pollinate ideas and opportunities internally.
  • The desire to know community partners and build relationships.
  • Working knowledge of CRM systems is preferred.
  • Knowledge of and interest in local and national innovation/technology and tech recruiting is preferred.
