The Institute of Marine and Environmental Technology (IMET) seeks to hire an Assistant Director to work closely with the IMET Director to advance the mission of the Institute, in particular fostering economic development initiatives of IMET; leading entrepreneurial training programs at IMET for students and faculty; and facilitating collaborative research initiatives between the IMET faculty and faculty of the partner institutions. The duties of this position include: overseeing the Harbor Launch Business Incubator at IMET (http://imet.umces.edu/harborlaunch/) and recruitment of early stage companies; managing the Ratcliffe Environmental Entrepreneur Fellow (REEF) Program (https://imet.usmd.edu/reef-program); working with IMET faculty members to assist them in interactions with commercial partners; performing a lead role in coordinating complex projects and collaborations across the IMET partner institutions, including proposal writing and review for these projects; assisting with inception of program ideas, and coordinating with faculty and grant managers on preparing and submitting proposals; assisting with overall administrative and operational functions of the Institute; compiling financial reports for the IMET Director and tracking intellectual property, licensing and commercial interactions; fostering global collaborations through the execution of MOUs with international universities; and assisting with outreach initiatives to broaden IMETÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s interactions with the public.
BachelorÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s Degree in the life sciences is required with an MS or Ph.D. preferred. Business experience and/or qualifications are desirable. At least three years of experience in economic development/intellectual property/tech transfer in an academic or commercial environment is required or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience. The ability to promote IMET through appropriate marketing/PR is desirable. Excellent communications and interpersonal skills are essential. The ability to develop strong working relationships with high-level officials locally, nationally and internationally is imperative because of IMETÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s overall mission and goals.
Salary is commensurate with experience. This is an exempt, regular position that includes a competitive benefits package, including State of Maryland health benefit and retirement programs, 22 days of annual leave, 14 days of sick leave, 3 days of personal leave, and 12/13 days of holiday leave.
