The 14 West Information Security team, part of The Agora Companies, has an immediate opening for an Application Security Engineer/Penetration Tester. This regular, full-time position is a great opportunity for someone with strong web application security skills. This is a highly technical hands-on role that will utilize your skills in penetration testing and application security.

  • Conducting application security assessments and penetration tests (web, web service, etc.).  These assessments involve manual testing and analysis as well as the use of automated application vulnerability scanning/testing tools such as Burp Suite Professional and/or code review tools such as Veracode or HP Fortify.
  • Writing a formal security assessment report for each application.
  • Meet with product owners, development teams, and affiliated parties to review your assessment results and consult on remediation options.
  • Retesting security vulnerabilities that have been fixed.


  • Several years of experience developing web applications, preferably hardcore e-commerce or business applications that face the Internet (required).
  • Knowledge of the HTTP protocol and how it works.
  • Experience performing application security testing using manual techniques plus runtime vulnerability testing tools and/or code review tools.
  • Experience with Java and/or .NET.
  • Good understanding of testing the security of SOAP/Restful based API’s.
  • Good understanding on how to build and trouble-shoot a Content Security Policy.
  • Strong understanding of web based attacks involving XSS, SQLi, XXE, etc..

  • Willingness to do hands-on, highly technical work.
  • Strong focus on working as a team with all parties involved with an application.
  • Desire to learn new things and flexibility to adjust as new situations arise.

Director of Development, Cory Chambers knows of this first hand. “My personal story is they gave me an opportunity when no one else would,” he said. 

When Chambers graduated from college, he couldn’t find an engineering job. He felt that no one would take a chance on a junior developer.

But 14 West did.

After he was hired, Chambers was promoted to a management position within nine months. And the company asked him how they could find and coach more junior developers like him. “At the rate in which we’ve grown, I now manage a team of about nine or 10 people and we’re still adding to that,” he said.

14 West also hosts an extensive internship program, wherein 26 to 28 interns come in for orientation each May. The internship program includes big outings such as sailing, team building activities, and real world experience in an elite and growing enterprise.

It’s a demonstrated set of values — focused on people — that extends to the company’s philanthropic approach, as well.
