North Side tech company, XYCOM, is launching a free monthly โ€œtechnology clinicโ€ for local businesses.

Starting on Tuesday, Aug. 25, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., XYCOMโ€™s office at 842 Jacksonia St. will open its doors to Pittsburgh companies and government agencies troubleshooting tech issues.

The walk-in service targets organizations that lack dedicated IT staff or canโ€™t afford a consultant, but still need the diagnostics and technical fixes, according to Chad Hill, founder of the company.

โ€œThereโ€™s plenty of people out there that are in a position where they need support, need help, have questions, but are either not in a position to ask, afraid to ask or donโ€™t want to pay to ask that kind of thing,โ€ Hill told Technical.ly, โ€œso we thought, โ€˜Hey, weโ€™ll try something new.โ€™โ€

XYCOM specializes in technology systems integration. Think services like setting up an organizationโ€™s network —  phones, Wi-Fi and the cabling that makes it all work. Digital signage, a projector in a conference room or physical security, like cameras or alarm systems, all fall into the firmโ€™s wheelhouse, too.

Given XYCOMโ€™s enterprise focus, the office hours are not designed for individuals or households seeking help with their consumer devices, Hill added. Residents looking for that kind of help will be better served at Best Buyโ€™s Geek Squad service counter or the Apple store.

Besides that, there are few limits on who else can use the service. No matter how different the industry, many rely on similar IT processes.

A wide range of organizations are adopting tech in their everyday operations but often donโ€™t know where to start, according to Hill. The tech clinic offers XYCOM an opportunity to connect with those orgs and give back to the city itโ€™s called home for nearly three decades.

โ€œA school, as an example, a manufacturing facility or a dentist office, it makes no difference,โ€ Hill said. โ€œAll of these operations utilize technology in some capacity and itโ€™s only getting more prevalent as time goes on.โ€

Future sessions will be held every last Tuesday of the month, either from the hours of 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. or 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Updates on specific times will be posted to the companyโ€™s LinkedIn or website, Hill said.
