Google-created workshops for parents are coming to the Baltimore area.
Through a partnership with the Y in Central Maryland, the free one-hour workshops will be offered in 14 locations in June and July.
Built around a collection of Google-developed resources called “Be Internet Awesome,” the IRL workshops are designed to provide education in the areas of online safety and “digital citizenship.” Here’s how the organizers describe the programming:
Families will learn to teach their children how to communicate responsibly, understand real from fake in the face of phishing and scams, build strong passwords, be positive and kind online, talk about questionable content with their family, and why building healthy tech habits is important.
The workshops will offer free bilingual resources, and information that can guide discussions at home, according to organizers.
Google started the program in Chicago with 18 sessions in April. Now it’s expanding to six cities for a total of 100 workshops.
The series starts today with sessions at Y locations in Pasadena and Catonsville. For Baltimore city, a workshop will be held at the Y in Druid Hill on June 21. Find a session here.
