After eight tries you’d think we’d have this Philly Tech Week thing down to a science. Truth is, each PTW is a bit different than the last, a testament to the dynamic churn of people and firms here, but also a response to the times.
As conversations around equity in the tech sector have mounted in recent months, Technical.ly has decided to double-down on its longstanding commitment to inclusivity and diversity. For example, at Introduced by Technical.ly, a new all-day, one-venue extravaganza of learning and discovery, 48 percent of speakers are people of color and 56 percent are women. The event features over 100 speakers. The day covers everything from venture capital to design thinking to web accessibility.
Diversity is really about perspective, offering multiple contexts from which to understand the pressing issues of the day. That’s why inclusive innovation matters to companies and regions, and why we’re proud to offer Introduced as a representative showcase of the communities we cover.
As you kick off the week’s networking and professional development opportunities, be mindful of how your own work could benefit from an inclusivity of thought. Welcome in some additional perspectives. Challenge your biases. Grow a little.
Because as much as PTW is about celebrating technology and innovation in Philadelphia, it’s also a platform for self-betterment. That may mean landing a new job or learning a new programming language. But it can also mean a whole lot more.
Sincerely,
Editor-in-Chief Zack Seward, and the entire Technical.ly team
