A nonprofit working to apply the sharing-economy model to feeding the hungry was burglarized late last month.
Unsung is based out of the Emerging Technology Centers’ Haven campus, but has a distributed team of developers working on the app-based service that coordinates donations from food businesses. For the summer, the team was working out of an apartment north of Patterson Park, said founder Jason King.
Four days before the planned end of the stint, on Aug. 29, the team’s apartment on North Potomac was burglarized. Someone broke in while they were out during the afternoon, and devices including laptops, iPads and iPhones were stolen, King said.
Police said they were investigating, but the team is carrying on. The team responded with the below note outside the apartment. They were out on the streets distributing meals the next day. King said they are aiming for a full launch of the app in the fall.
