TechTalk Jr., the youth tech event series, is now powered by SecureNetMD

A few weeks ago, we told you about plans launch TechTalk Jr. in 2017. Well folks, the tech conversation geared towards little ones is finally coming together. Rob Nicholson has garnered support from his employer. “SecureNetMD is powering the event, they’ve expressed backing and assistance and resources as needed,” he said.
It makes sense for SecureNetMD as the health tech company is a major player in connectivity downstate.
Nicholson has been organizing these TechTalk events for quite some time, but he saw a need to include the younger population. “The goal is to get parents and kids to get more involved in technology, on the weekend, after school, at the dinner table. To create that bridge, that’s what TechTalk Jr. is all about,” explained Nicholson.
The format for the upcoming event on Tuesday, Jan. 10 will be more of a show and tell, where kids and parents can share interesting artifacts and videos and open up the floor for discussion. Nicholson is interested in expanding to workshops in the future. The event even has a presentation scheduled by a father/daughter team.
Currently, there’s one event planned at the Milton Library but he’s interested in expanding it to other libraries once the model is tested, which should be a breeze since Delaware Libraries have already expressed interest in collaborating.
“As the snowball rolls down the hill collecting volunteers on the TechTalk or the TechTalk Jr. side, we’d like to build demand. If it’s a big hit, maybe we can create a framework for someone else to run these talks too. … These events are building the foundation of the group and the momentum,” said Nicholson.
TechTalk Jr. is eying Greenwood Library for their March event for a potential robot-building event.
