SparkFun Electronics launches U.S. tour to bring circuitry, Arduino and electronics education to students [VIDEO]

Boulder, Colorado’s SparkFun Electronics is launching a national education tour that will stop in all 50 states in order to teach teachers, students and after-school educators “web development, soldering, circuit-building and more in an effort to demonstrate that electronics are an important component of education, touching on science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics,” according to VentureBeat.

Unlike the national tour undertaken in summer 2012 by SparkTruck, the fablab on wheels that was financed through a successful Kickstarter campaign and rolled through Baltimore last September, it’ll cost $1,500 to bring SparkFun to locations in Charm City (and that’s only if a school, library, or other after-school education site in Baltimore is one of the first 50 stops in SparkFun’s sign-up list).

SparkFun notes the $1,500 price tag “includes enough hardware (which is yours to keep) for 25-40 students and a full day of training” from three SparkFun staffers.
Founded in 2003 and based in Boulder, Colo., SparkFun is an online hub of sorts for electronics projects. It sells more than 1,800 products, like capacitors and resistors, and its “Department of Education” is a compendium of tutorials, code and workbooks to guide educators through classes based around Arduino, soldering and microcontrollers, among others.
