SmartAsset bumped Baltimore up a spot in this year’s edition of its ranking of cities for women in tech.
Based on stats that measure how many tech jobs go to women, how much they make compared to men and overall tech employment growth, we’re up to No. 3. D.C. is still No. 1.
It shows some progress. In Baltimore, 32.5 percent of tech jobs are filled by women, the study states. That’s up slightly over last year and above the national average of 26.2 percent. But that’s still not close to representing the proportions in the population.
Baltimore women in tech also still make 88.4 percent of what men are paid. The other cities in the top five are well over 90 percent, with women making slightly more than men on average Kansas City and Indianapolis.
The study, which is compiled using U.S. Census data for 58 metros, also noted overall job growth in the tech fields. Between 2012 and 2015, the area added 12,400 computer and math jobs.
