Rachel Jacobs spent nearly a decade working in edtech and had recently become the CEO of Philly edtech startup ApprenNet before dying in the Tuesday night’s Amtrak derailment.
In her memory, Jacobs’ family hopes to create a scholarship fund for women social entrepreneurs at Columbia Business School, where Jacobs got her MBA. That’s why her family is asking gifts to be made to the school, or to Detroit Nation, the economic development organization Jacobs founded in 2010.

Jacobs, a Swarthmore College graduate, grew up in Detroit and told us in an interview last month that she was excited about moving back to Philadelphia because its “hometown pride” reminded her of Detroit.
